Rex,
I wanted to change the questions to:
1. Yes, it was my first time there
2. Yes, I was also there before
3. No, I didn't make it over
4. I am hoping to go soon
I was going to ask the mods to change it, but figured a few were getting ready to leave town, others are out of town, and I have seen some of the stuff they are trying to work on behind the scenes so I thought asking to change a poll was too trivial. So I just left it. It was not my intent to generalize the Homecoming to one event (though there have been several threads leading up to that event).
I was more curious to hear if The Homecoming events throughout the past year actually got more people to visit for the first time, or to return for another visit.

This was the first of I hope many trips to Scotland.
We spent 3 days in Edinburgh for Gathering events, then on to Dunoon for a few days. After that we went to Kilfinnan, then on to Oban. After Oban we went to Stirling then to Falkirk, then back to Edinburgh for the flight home.
An amazing trip. Sure hope to come back some day soon.

Like Trefor, I could not accurately answer the poll question. I did not travel 'over', but I did travel 'up' for the Gathering weekend in Edinburgh (which was amazing), and I also travelled 'up' back in January for the Ferintosh Burns Supper weekend (which was, as always, just great).

I took my family back to the country of my birth this summer for three weeks.
We traveled to Glasgow, Spent a week in the highlands and traveled in and around the Great Glen. Then saw Inverness, Stirling and Edinburgh. It truly was a homecoming for me. I left with my parents when I was just 3 years of age and I am now 51. I should have returned years ago. I don't have words to describe the connection I had with the people and places we visited. Well there is one that can be used and that is home. I guess I really never knew what being home was like. I had always thought of Canada as my home but this summer has left me with my first solid memories of Scotland. And my first Kilt! This year has been a true Homecomming for me.

I went in March for my honeymoon. My wife and I spent most of our time in the Inverness area. It was the best vacation of my life!

Well alright I am already here! As most of you know I was unable to join in with the festivities and forgetting the limitations of the local advertising of the event, it is a huge regret to me that I could not meet up with some of you.I hope ,over the years to put that right----just don't leave your next visit too long! Anyway, I am delighted to learn on this thread and others, you all had a good time here and wish to return. Marvellous!
