I've had similar experiences. The latest was with Hector Russell with whom I was trying to give some business to a local company by buying some tartan through them. The sales assistant (who is also a kiltmaker) asked what I was going to do with it really tried to put my idea down and even laughed at the fact that I saw it on a website (on here). I explained the significance of Xmarks and how I'm sure a lot of members regularly use his company. He told me he makes proper Highland wear and isn't upto SUPPLYING ME MATERIAL as it was "a waste".
So basically he didn't want his business to have a cut from ordering me some material and handing it to me when it was in stock.
Some people really don't care about what impression they leave on you of their business, however, in sight of my experience I know some who are really put off with hector Russell in Glasgow now, partially because of this and their own experience of this man.

He may not be Native, but his name does seem to be Three Feathers Jones. The company crest looks very much like a take on the crest of HRH the Prince of Wales.

Oooooooohhhh! Ouch! There sure seems to be some apologizing needed somewhere here.

From the Three Feathers site:
"The Three Feathers indicates Mr. Jones' Welsh heritage, his adoption by a Shawnee family."

Boy, did I luck out on my "Jones Automotive" example! I pulled that out of thin air. The guy's really named Jones!?

Sounds to me someone went off half cocked. Sometimes when you look for trouble you find it. He may well have been abrupt on the phone but he was answering the question asked of him. Telephone customer service is a long way from being an easy job. Granted you are always supposed to be polite and calm but that is sometimes easier said than done.

As it was apparent that the customer calling failed to understand that "Three Feathers" was a native American name it is a pity that Mr. Jones did not offer some clarification for his potential customer such as "Sir, my name is David N. Three Feather Jones" I'm sure that Josh would have apologized and both gentlemen could have laughed it off and done business. Occasionally we have to accept that other people do not share our experiences and instead of making them come to us we need to come to them and offer information.
