As someone who watched ther very first episode of Star Trek the very first time it came on- I think William Shatner doesn't have to act, he just has to be himself. That being said- I enjoy him and James Spader on Boston Legal. (But I have a hard time getting past Jame Spader as the geeky linguist in Stargate.)

Shatner is great on Boston Legal! But it's not Spader's role on Stargate that weirds me out. After seeing him as a sado-masochist lawyer in The Secretary, it's odd seeing him as a "normal" lawyer on Boston Legal.

I did not see The Secretary. Perhaps, Spader is the Meryl Streep of male thespians.

Sionnoch's nailed it: no one has made a better living at just being himself and, frankly, making fun of himself than Shatner. The less acting he has to do, the better he's going to be.
