The armadillo Iain mentioned might at least serve as some sort of athletic protection in a pinch. But the porcupine? That's just asking for trouble.

For Father's day last year, my Eldest grandson gave me a wild rabbit sporran. . . His sister looked at in mock horror and exclaimed: "You KILLED Bunny Frou-Frou!" Without missing a beat, he replied, "Nope, the field mice ganged up on him and brought me his hide, what else could I do with it?"
Sometime I wonder about my offspring, other times I know!

Driving here in Florida on weekends, some of the roads have a couple of folks selling "Gator Jerky". I've never stopped, but I've always wondered:
What do they do with the skins? And what would an alligator sporran look like?

At first glance, I knew exactly what you were talking about....a sporran of course! (and what would probably end up being a nice soft one too)
But after reading it again.....all I have to say is: it's a good thing all of our minds can follow the same train of thought. Because taken out of context, this one's a doosie!

I've told my wife that her black Manx cat will make a nice sporran some day, but with the way he sheds, I'd soon have a bare sporran with no tail.

Where I live, in scenic Resume Speed British Columbia, it's the time of year when the dominant male Yellow-Bellied Marmots are chasing their sons out to find their own durn territory. There's all these medium-cat-sized rodents running across the roads.
I did a little motorcycle jink to avoid one this morning, then thought: "Hmmm. I wonder if that'd make a good sporran?"
My mind wanders back in time to a visit with some friends years ago. After a particularly tasty home-cooked meal, my host leaned back in his chair and belched loudly. His wife sighed happily and said, "Don't matter whether you get 'em with a gun or a Goodyear, it's all good eatin'."
Those marmots look like they'd be good on rice. :food-smiley-002:

There is all kinds of roadkill available in my area. I usually look at it and think sporran. And of course, if that pesky coon doesn't stay off my front porch, I might just wind up with a masked sporran.

good day gentlemen, I have laughed with that ideas of sporran…. applause for you
now a question:
can only be done sporran with terrestrial animal? (four legs obvious), because I have seen beautiful purses and accessories done with fish skin. yes of salmon mainly and the truth is that the work craftsman is beautiful, I do not create to have seen esporran thus. then…it can?
