Re: Finally, hose I'm happy with!
Those are great! I just started learning to knit. I will soon be taking a class to learn how to knit socks. I found a pattern for some cabled hose that I really like. I hope to be knitting my own hose by the end of summer.
Those loom really good with the kilt. Very nicely done.

Thank you! I just dove in and kind of taught myself from internet and Knitting For Dummies-level resources. Started on double-pointed straight needles because that's how my mother always did it.
My first pair was a disaster, second pair look and fit great but don't really go with any of Bob's current kilts (duh. . .). Third pair too long, fourth pair too short. . . This is my fifth attempt and I really recommend the toe-up on circulars format as it makes them way easier to measure and try on as you go. Keeping two skeins of yarn from becoming one tangled mess is my biggest challenge now.

A few weeks ago I wouldn't have even known what you were talking about! Lol. Now, I can't get classes fast enough. I will definitely take your advice. Btw, how long does it take you to knit a pair of hose?

Really hard to say. The cuffs took about 3 hours each but that's more complicated than knitting straight up the leg (although increasing for calf has its own challenges). Call it an hour per inch, in real rough terms? Times 17 in. for leg plus 4 in. for cuff plus 11 in. for foot, add some time to puzzle out "turning the heel" and times two for the pair. . . ouch. Better not do that math or my arthritic hands/wrists will go on strike!
Many of the XMarks knitters hang out on Ravelry, there's a group for Kilt Hose and Flashes where you could ask questions and get a wider range of answers. I find Ravelry kind of overwhelming but if you just stick to the Kilt Hose group it's manageable.
Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!
