That works for me. It might even be worth asking if the standard menu will be available for anyone who decides at the last moment they can't do it. At least from the appetizers.

Serve with mashed potatoes, if you serve it at all.

Well, old Alton is a good Georgia boy, but he doesn't seem to care for haggis.
Anyway, we have put out the haggis traps and plan to have plenty in time for the Burns Supper.

Hey Jim,
The wife just informed me that she would prefer the sheperds pie for dinner instead of haggis. No accounting for taste!

You didn't see it because I didn't put it there. I am old, forgetful, and I take two handfuls of meds daily. That's my excuse. In fact, I've been pretty slack about details, haven't I? That's because nothing is cast in stone yet. However . . .
With only 2 1/2 weeks to go, I'd better get busy.
I am thinking about the whole thing kicking off about 6:00 PM, gathering for drinks, chat, lies, lassie oggling, kilt inspecions (my wife's favorite part), and a little cattle reiving. I can provide any written material anyone wants then.
We can all get acquainted since I don't know any of you guys on sight, and plan to begin the festivities about 6:30 - 6:45, depending on how long it takes us to kill, skin, and cook the haggis. I think we'll pipe the rascal in around 6:45 - 7:00.
If any of you lads play the pipes, please let me know. I haven't lined up a piper yet, and it would be great to use local talent. Even if you aren't really piobrach rated, if you can do "Scotland the Brave" and one or two others, it'll be nice to have an X'er doing the honors.
One other thing: it's time to make your wishes known about any particular part you'd like to do. And we'll need at least one lassie to respond to the Toast to the Lassies, so if one of your wives goes in for drama, sign 'er up.

I just wanted to make a small suggestion regarding the "Cocktail Hour." In my experience, 30 minutes for a Cocktail "hour" is gonna seem WAYYYY too brief. My recomendation would be to start the gathering at 5PM with seating at 630. Not everyone will arrive at the same time, and it will give everyone plenty of time to make introductions and chat a bit. I really think anything less than an hour and a half will seem very brief for a cocktail hour. Two hours would be better I think, but it may seem too long for some folk and they'll arrive late anyway.

My experience with Burns Supper cocktail hours is the exact opposite; our organizing committee has found that if the cocktail hour is too long, then people start to leave before the Supper is over -- but then again, we are talking about general public types in SW Missouri, where they roll up the sidewalks at 9.30 pm!
