Wow Doug, that are wonderful, with beautiful handspun, too! I also spin and knit (weaving is on my list), but haven't spun for kilt hose use yet.
I know you said you made a 4 ply, but what weight equivalent/wraps per inch did you spin the yarn to? I've been contemplating doing some hose spinning, but debating the ply and wpi for it.
And Welcome! Hope to see more of your work soon.

Sheesh, sorry...
Was going to say "that is beautiful work", but brain made a u-turn and switched mid-sentence to say "they are wonderful", but mixed up half-way and I didn't proofread...
I should just go knit some hose instead of trying to type, I guess!

knitknut those are really nice hose and I agree with string that I like the lace work on the red hose. I think it just the right amount of lace.
djmacnyc how long did it take to knit those?
Good work thanks for sharing both of you.

Thanks for the praise/encouragement Dawn and Friday...
Regarding the kilt hose yarn - I haven't wrapped it to see specifically. I spin for what I need and aim for what seems right - pretty hard sock weight yarn, in this case. It's probably 20-25 wpi range (maybe more in spots). Since it's a four ply, I used my high-speed flyer and whorl set-up and spun the singles (to right) as thin as possible with hard twist (sewing thread-like) then plied them together - left, wound that length into a center-pull ball and plied both ends back on itself in the same direction - left; used Shetland wool.
Took about 6 months, altogether.
I'm now onto weaving Tartan - my family (MacArthur) tartan here's a pic...
Best regards,
Doug

Maybe my Donald Duck feet (13EE foot, AA heel) would be a candidate. I'll have to look into the learning to knit too (Another thing to add to the queue)
