In a quote from Artificer,
"I assume the powers that be (Steve, one-man-committee) would get a sample made to assure of the proper colour."
I'm sorry, but I have not yet found any company that will produce a finished tie as a sample to review for color.
The average minimum order is 25-50 ties. I'm afraid this is an all or nothing sort of deal.
Companies will provide artwork and thread samples for review but most require you to specify color by Pantone number to avoid problems with color matching.
This is sort of like getting a special weave of Tartan, You can ask for yarn color samples but setting up the loom is where the labor is and is only done once for each run.

They're good people, they also do neckties, scarves and cummerbunds. Outside of the ties I sew for myself, they ARE my tie supplier.

Sorry for the mis-type,
I did mean a sample card (yarn) not a full sample tie.

Steve is quite right we can have any style of tie we like, but to my mind as we are wearing Highland attire a "club style tie" would seem appropriate, particularly when Xmarks has its own tartan, constitution and rules, then when all things are considered, well, we are a club.

And here's Artificer's design (the blue in which is also very dark on my monitor) with the stripes going the other direction as per Jock's request:

I like the simplicity of this design better than the "MM Mk III".

NO NOT THAT WAY!!! That mimics a real Regimental tie!!!
Go to posts 79 and 80 for the correct way! Artificers previous posts to that were the ones that were poaching!

That's what I get for leaving my computer for a while and not checking to see if the posts are new! I didn't realize Artificer had already switched the direction; my apologies!

As Thistledown noted, last year I got as far as receiving generic samples and early quotes from two potential vendors. I'll bundle up those materials and forward to Steve tomorrow.

Why reinvent the wheel? Glen's designs were fine, and ready to go. I say go with one of them.
