kilted newbie from Iowa!
Hey all, my name is levi mcclain. i just got into kilts a couple months ago and am desperate to learn more. this is my first post and i am looking forward to talking to all those who can further my miniscule knowlegde of kilts. i live in iowa and was wondering if there are any of my kilted brethren in this state.so far i havent seen any kilts being worn any where in iowa. i have one kilt and its a piece of crap. I bought the pattern from a sewing company. i dont know if the pattern is authentic , but i know the end result is not. the person who made it for me made it badly, so ive only worn it outside of my home once. it really sucks. i am 17, and i want to know evrything i can about wearing kilts. i have been reading a lot if the posts and have enjoyed it.so please help me!
i wold like to wear kilts at least 50 % lf the time i just dont have the money right now. if you have any advice please ill take all the help i can get.

Iowa Scots...
Hello, Levi!
Were are you in Iowa? My reason for asking is there are several Scottish heritage organizations in Iowa:
http://www.haggis-iowa.com/shsi.html
You'll find links to the three societies here, as well as to pipe bands, such as the Iowa Scottish Pipes and Drums and the University of Iowa's Scottish Highlanders, as well as to Scottish dance groups, etc.
And finally, my avatar is the official Iowa state tartan! My family is from Iowa -- N Central Iowa and around Knoxville, SE of Des Moines, where my Scottish ancestors settled after immigrating.
Cheers,
Todd

Welcome to the forum...
Kilts, good ones at any rate, are not cheap that is for sure. But I do hope you find a way to have one worth wearing.

KWaS, on this forum there is a pattern for a (I think) non tartan kilt called the XKilt by AlanH, it's been made several times by different folks and all make good comments. Link here.
Being younger and not having enough money for you kilted ambitions sucks (I know from experience) but it'll make getting kilts all the sweeter. Perhaps checkout Stillwater economies and USA Kilts casuals as 'cheaper' kilts. Might give you something to save for.
Welcome to the forum from Japan mate, stick around and and have some fun.

Welcome from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I don't know how much money you have, are making, or might get for Christmas, but USA Kilts from link above, have some inexpensive, but good kilts. Maybe you can ask for one specific one for Christmas. Many have started out where you are, but soon you will have a good kilt.
DALE.
You don't have to be Scottish to be comfortable!

Oh and it's better if you say SCOTS-Irish. Scotch is a whisky.
