Easy* Two-Page Kilt Instructions

The Costumer's Manifesto is a wonderful resource for finding historical patterns and so on; one of the items that's quite nice is a Victorian/Edwardian tailor's guide, in 13 parts. The Cutter's Practical Guide to Cutting and Making ... includes all sorts of kilt-related goodies, including a kilt pattern and instructions.

Seriously, I found the instructions really interesting, with explanations of how to handle pleating for tweeds and tartans, and the assumption that the kilt would include buttons for suspenders (braces in the original).

I may try the highland doublet pattern sometime.

That's weird, when I access their website directly (as opposed to from your link) the same waistcoat comes up as $60, what's up with that?


EDIT: Spoke to J. Higgins, price is in fact $60, they suggested the link was probably old. Still a good value in my book.

I downloaded a patern from them a while back for an Inverness coat, but as it's rarely cold enough for even a sweater here, I've never gotten around to it.

I find it a bit odd/amusing that Part 9, which contains the above instructions for Highland jackets, has hints on accomodating "humpbacks" as a prominent section in the text and not as a footnote.
