    Day Plaid Dimensions?

    Dia Dhuit!

Do any of you know what the typical dimensions are of a day plaid? (Note: I do not mean the fly plaid.) To me, logic would dictate that since the kilt and the day plaid are the Filleadh Mhór split in half, the top half/day plaid would be 4 yards single width just like the bottom. However, logic and clothing rarely go hand in hand!

I don't beleive there are any prescribed deminsions per se. It can be just about any size you want it to be.

While there may be historic precedence for it being about 4 yards single width, you might find 2 yards of double width a more convenient size for using as a wrap, or laying out as a blanket or cover.

Really any size you wanted it to be would work.

    Hi Slohairt and Matt,
The one Peter MacDonald wove for me (Jacket sett from the painting of James Moray of Abercairney) is 28 inches on each half and a fantastic garment, which I wear often. I have enjoyed both of your postings. Slohairt, I went to University in Nova Scotia (Celtic Studies at St. F.X.) and enjoyed my stay in Canada. Matt, I admire your work and scholarship. I saw your recomendation of The Mad Piper on your site. He is one of my best friends- best man at my wedding too.
