Kilts and Trench Coats
How many of you have worn a trench coat with your kilt? I have done it a few times.

Hmmmm, with the trench coat I have...... I would be afraid that folks would think I was a flasher!

Not a trench coat, but an Inverness coat any time it's raining.

That's what I wear--trench coat, that is--with my kilt (only when it's actually cold or raining, to avoid unwarranted presumptions like that suggested), and Scotty Thompson in his book "So Your Going to Wear the Kilt" approves of it.

I have an Australian Outback drover and I wear it with my kilt in cold/rainy/snowy weather...with hose, it's no big deal. If I didn't have the drover, I'd wear my RCNavy trench coat.

I've got an aussie drover as well, and I've work it with my kilts many times, as it is my default foul weather gear until I get a real inverness cloak!
there are pics of me in my drover and kilt:

1 Aussie Drover, 1 calf length overcoat, 1 navy watch coat, all have been worn with kilts.

Good Question.
I never want to ruin the kilt look when out and about. We have been lucky as the weather has been warm here. S i have been loking for ideas as to what overcoat will not ruin the nice kilt look i tried so hard to obtain.
An Inverness coat? Any photos?

Wish I could afford an Inverness cape....or rather wish I didn't love hand sewn kilts more.
Have worn kilts with an Aussie Drover, a Naval officer's bridge coat, and even a replica U.S. Civil War era Cavalry greatcoat...which is a little over the top but certainly warm and dry with its waistlength cape.
Have thought about if the cavalry greatcoat could be altered into an Inverness Cape but the color is just too locked into Civil War cavalry (light blue) and the many buttons mark it as military.
Anyhow, way I figure it is if the weather is foul enough that I need a greatcoat of some sort chances are nil that anyone is paying attention to me, so, what the heck - go with what's practical to protect the kilt.
