I just finished my first Tank
8 yards, 32 pleats.....you got it. The time total was 42 hours.
I got to deliver it today to PiperGeorge. The Gwenlass and I have been plotting since October, and we rendered George momentarily speechless when the kilt came out of the box.
Thanks, Gwen for letting me present it to him today!
it was a good day as George so happened to have a bottle of Linsmore single Malt at the house with MY name on it!
From a pleating standpoint, this was my most adventurous kilt yet, and I got the center back pleat spot-on. I made one goof which is noticeable on the inside, but not from the outside. I used tailors canvas for stiffening the under and over aprons, and it seems like good stuff. I stuck with regular canvas for reinforcing cut-out sections of the pleats. As an aside, every night I settled down at the kitchen table to pleat, I poured myself a wee dram of single malt. These were challenging pleats for a number of reasons, but they came out pretty well. I credit that to the Aberlour ten-year!
George put it on immediately and wore it around the house and out to lunch today so I got to see it "in action"...It's got a good swing. I done good, if I do say so myself.
The tartan is the Dutch Mackay tartan, which is not for the faint of heart, but it looks good as a kilt. He'll be wearing it to the Nor Cal Burns Night, so we'll have pics, then.
*WHEW*
All righty, then.....next up......
The 6-yard X-Marks Tartan Kilt. I've done three tartan kilts now, five X-Kilts and a canvas kilt. I think I'm ready, Steve..

Good... and getting better.
Of course, your XMarks is going to be pleated to the sett...?
I was planning on wearing mine to Burns Night, but I could bring a change kilt so you could inspect the pleating on the XMarks. How about it? Do you want to commit just yet? ha ha
