    Starting the next project (finally)

Things around the home of the Erisian monkeys has returned to only a slightly harried abnormal, so I'm finally getting started on my next kilt. As y'all know, my cat Roadblock passed recently. As one of the final honors paid to him, I wrapped his body in a piece of the tartan that I had recently bought to make a few kilts from. (I wish it had been a family tartan, but I don't have any of my family tartans, and I sure as hell wasn't going to wrap him in Black Watch, as that is a government tartan, and that cat hates rules. One of the very few times I ever heard that cat hiss and growl was when we had city inspectors come through our apartment.) Anyway, here's a preview of the tartan and how I've decided to pleat it. I just hope I can sew it half as well as I photoshopped it.

Sorry to hear about the cat.

    That's a great tartan though.

Whoops! the whole point I was trying to get to with telling about the cat is that I decided to call this my Roadblock kilt since it's being made from a "generic" or "fashion" tartan. I still can't believe that this is not a named registered tartan. I've even had the passing thought to send a swatch to the STA and register it as the Roadblock the cat tartan, but I don't think the mill that produced this or the designer who designed it would appreciate that much!

Thanks Brad, I'm glad you like it.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty anxious for that myself. It's going to be slow going, because I managed to hurt myself in the move, and I've got a lot of school to do. But I figure a week from Sunday, I should at least have most of the pleating done.

    Update!

Well, I'm a good ways into the pleating. The width is coming out to be ~3/4 of an inch. Depth is 4.5 inches. Believe it or not, this will be a kilt of over 10 yards of material! I thought it might take a full 10 yard length, but over that? I went wonky in my math somewhere. Oh well, this kilt will have a swing to die for. Here's a pic of the pleats I've done so far (clickable thumbnail):
