Storage & Travel
Okay, I'm still very new at this, so my apologies bout the easy questions that were probably covered and I have missed it somewhere.
When at home, advice about storing them when not in use, right now I have a simple clasp hanger (for slacks or wife's skirts, now for my kilt) I keep it in a guest bedroom closet (ours is too full) Should I do anything else?
Secondly, when I travel with it, what is the best way pack a kilt?
Thanks,
Brian

cedar chips will help if you have moths..
as far as travel, either wear the kilt, or check P1M's thread on a home-made kilt roll...I'll post the thread link when I find it.

I use a garment bag I have one kilt per bag, I hang the sporran from the hanger and hang my flashes from it as well, when I go to get into a kilt everything is there except my shoes\boots.

You don't mention whether the kilt is wool or not. I've read on some kiltmaker's sites that hanging your kilt for storage is fine, but have also noted that Rob MacDonald at www.westcoastkilts.com holds a differing view.

I tend to keep mine rolled, never cared for hangars.

Mine is rolled in a cedar box I built for it. Its small and stacks in the closet easily.

Its just a simple box, nothing special. I rolled the kilt up and measured it adding one inch each way, cut it out, and nailed it together. I used some hinges and a latch I had laying around. I never even put a finish on the outside. Oh, dont forget to sand at least the inside till its baby bottom smooth.

Reason: sand and sand more

I know that a few of the lads keep their rolled-up kilts stuffed into a lady's stocking (or 1/2 of a pair of pantyhose, I 'spose). this prevents the kilt from unrolling and they CLAIM that it's mothproof, but I'm reluctant to put that to the test.
Any roads, this allows them to throw the kilt into their dufflebag without worrying that it might need pressing later.
