    Contemporary Sgians

As Rod Serling used to say "Presented for your consideration;"
I spotted these knives in a catalog I received recently. They're not to my personal taste (I usually assemble my own traditional style knives from component parts), but they look like just the ticket for someone looking for a functional, contemporary style sgian dubh.

I really like the second one, and its cheap also. Have you dealt with this company before? I just might have to order it.

I've dealt with Smoky Mountain Knife Works on several occasions. Never had a problem with them, even the one time I had to return something went smoothly. Myerco knives aren't too shabby. Not custom quality, but certainly up to anything we'd need a sgian for.

I have a Cold Steel Culloden (though now discontinued) that I like very much. You can find them on ebay frequently enough.

I have one of these as well. I like it, except for the fact that the blade is made of carbon steel instead of stainless. How do you deal with the rust issue, other than the traditional method of keeping the blade oiled?

I been looking ebay over for another one for about 2 months. They do come up, frequently would be overstating it. They also seem to think they are made of gold now.

I seem to remember that the aforementioned Smokey Mountain Knife Works has a treated pad of some kind that erases the rust and black spots on carbon steel...perhaps someone who has experience with products like that will add some information.

Any experience with a Cold Steel "Skean Dhu" as seen in this eBay auction # 170089751281? Looks like it needs a sheath - but how about a black knife that's really a black knife?

Phil, I've been looking for one of those in that price range. I'll review it when it arrives. Thanks for the post. O'Neille
