My Turn To Deal With A Dress Code - Part Two, Respite
I arrived at work this morning to find my clinical supervisor, the lady who at first objected to my wearing kilts to work as unprofessional, had been fired.
The CEO and head of security came in early this morning, packed all her personal belongings in her office in boxes, loaded them in a truck, and denied her entry into the building. They then gave her a ride home since she'd been dropped off.
No details, as with any personnel matters. It had seemed things were worked out and settled. But apparently she crossed the CEO in a manner beyond redemption. Now she's unemployed.
Mixed emotions on my part. The CEO came to each therapist individually and assured us it had nothing to do with the conflicts with her last month. But after much negotiation she had come to the point where she accepted my wearing kilts, was even giving me compliments.
Now, there will eventually be a new clinical supervisor. An unknown quantity. But am hopeful that since the CEO has never objected to my wearing kilts part-time and full-time, that the kilt issue won't arise again.
But then...you never know what the Ol' Coyote (The Trickster) has up his sleeve. We shall see. Meantime, I've some respite.

Always mixed feelings when someone gets the boot - even when it's someone you don't think all that highly of. Hope the devil you don't know (yet) is less of a problem than the devil you knew!

Mayby the Trickster will send you a supervisor... That wears kilts.
Only on the first day of his job, he'll be wearing his pleats forward and you'll be biting your lip all day trying not to correct your boss.

Kilts 1 Clinical Supervisor 0. I sincerely hope you get a better and more understanding supervisor as a replacement.

Hey dread there's a job for ya! Be Ron's supervisor, ban the kilt, force him to sell his kilts cheap to pay for pants. Only one problem though...

Hmm, trying to force a former Marine to give up his kilts . . . sounds like clan McChesty needs to go burn out some hooches and run off some cattle. (insert smiley)

Ron, here's to hoping that the Trickster has played his joke, and it was on your clinical supervisor. She came in full of, umm, vim and vigor, and thought that she would be the new broom which would (yea, verily!) sweep clean. Coyote made her think that the administration was the important part of the gig, and that you peasants toiling in the vinyards were, well, peasants toiling in the vinyards. Funny thing, kind of. "Admin support more important than the actual clinical workers and therapists?" I think I can hear the old song-dog laughing now . . .

Hmm, actually, now that I think about it, your kilt may be an ASSET rather than being neutral, in terms of job performance. I know you're on and around the res a good bit, but offhand I don't know how many of your clients are indigenos and how many are "immigrants." Whether because it's simply not pants (like the Army wore pants, like the Indian Agents wore pants, like the BIA wears pants today . . . ), or because you could explain that not too too terribly long ago YOUR PEOPLE TOO were oppressed and colonized---not to work up any frenzy, but just to . . . umm, to set yourself apart from The Man.
