Another Stillwater question
Has anyone else noticed that the pictures on the website are completely inadequate, as are the descriptions? Don't get me wrong here: I have 4 Stillwarer kilts, and am completely impressed with Jerry's service. However, it seems to me that additional views ((not encumbered with that absolutely silly watermark) What? can't find a kilt picture on the web and need to steal his?) I would like to order a box pleated Leatherneck, but the available pictures and text are not informative, and the same goes for all models.

The watermark is to protect Jerry's pictures...to keep unscrupulous vendors from stealing his pics and using them to advertise their wares...
I also wish Jerry could have a few extra view pictures and better descriptions to display the uber-pleated goodness. But it's his site and he can do as he sees fit.
BTW, you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Diplomacy and tact go a long way in having someone do what you want them to do, and makes them think it was THEIR idea in the first place...

For one thing, watermark programs usually have an opacity feature. The watermark could be made fainter so that it is still there but doesn't cover so much. I am interested in the leather jacket and would like there to be more details. However, on the photo itself, the watermark hides the buttons and lapel features.

I feel your pain, I got my box pleater on faith. Love it. It is not a fine hand made kilt. Beltloops are not perfect, selvedge leaves a bit to be desired, and it ain't no heavyweight.
For the price, it is fair shake. I don't think I could buy the fabric alone for 150.00
I will try to post some pics tonight or over the weekend. If you are looking for a really well made kilt, this ain't it. But for the price it is appropriate in my view.

May I suggest to all interested in more information and/or pictures of Stillwater products simply send Jerry an email at Stillwater kilts? I imagine he would be happy to help.

Only problem I have with the website is that there's still no leather version Nightstalker sporran on it...

Ron,
Might have something in the works. My local leathersmith (is that even a word?) is making me a "pouch" for my "skirt" with compartments. He has never seen a sporran or a nightstalker, so I will post up in accessories when he completes it If you like the pics when I get to them I should be able to get you his contact info.
I also love the SWK site. A little more detail and fluff would be nice, but I tend to buy from kiltmakers with sub par sites. Too slick and I start getting nervous. I am a programmer, and I know how it turns out when I make a kilt..... (about like their websites )
Best,
Doug

This is very true. I asked Jerry a question by email and got a response that answered my question plus gave me some good insight into the subject.

As a not-entirely unrelated side note... I exchanged email with Jerry regarding service tartans other than the Marines, and he responded that he hasn't had enough people indicate interest. So, as much as we all love our Jarheads, those of us who served in other branches might drop him a note, indicating interest in our own service tartans? Thanks!
