Rebirth of a family tradition
It's official. I just ordered a kilt for my son for Christmas.
My great uncle was the last to wear a kilt on a regular basis, so it's been nearly a century since two generations might have been seen kilted together. While my son's first kilt won't be the traditional tartan* worn in the family, the Black Watch looks pretty close.
Next step--having a specific family tartan designed and woven, and convincing some cousins and nephews to get kilted!
I'll be sure to post a photo....

That's a great way to spur interest in the family history and start a tradition. I hope you can convince your cousins and nephews to join in. How great that would be when you all get together!

Good for him. How old is your son? My 13 year old boy wants nothing to do with a kilt.

That's neat! Family connections and support make kilting so much better!

It's great when your sons like to wear the kilt. My 8 yo loves his and is thrilled to get a chance to wear it. Even my wee guy (he's 3) has one now. Make sure their early experiences are all positive so they build up a sense of pride when they wear it and they will be converts.

That's great. I'm sure the Black Watch will be worn with as much pride as anything else.
Don't ask me "Gryphon, why do you kilt?"....it's a family tradition.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…
