Invitation to post
For a couple of days, the forum has been inviting me to post. As this forum has hundreds of posts every day, of which I read only a few, I do not think more contentless posts is necessary.
Okay, I posted something. I hope the message will disappear.

Ah.. the effects of peer pressure. What I think is cool about this list is that if you want to just be an observer, that should be fine. You should only contribute if you want to.
That being said though, it's always nice to get to know your fellow kilties. That way when people travel to other states, that you've always got someone to go out and have some pints with. Just my opinion though.

We recently had another Québeker posting here, I think. So just the fact that you show yourself to be active here on occasion can help people to connect to others in their region.

First off, yes, the message disappeared with your post. Be forewarned it will return if you do not post again in a few days.
What is comes down to is that forums grow because of active participation. And we are simply trying to encourage forum members to do just that - actively participate. If we had 3,570+ members that never posted, this forum would be pretty quiet.
As for posts being 'contentless', I suppose that is in the eye of the beholder. I see some pretty silly threads that have a lot of responses and I see some very well-written threads that seem to go ignored. <shrug>
The message you were seeing will not reach out and bite you, if you prefer not to post.

Sounds like a good idea to me.
How many days of non posting before the message activates Mike?

But if all 3 570 members posted every day, nobody could ever read all that!

I'd rather have more choices of material to read, than to have a forum website than nobody contributed anything.
You're right that there are many threads out there that I have never read or probably will. Every day there are hundreds of posts that I never read. I pick and choose topics that intresest me, and that's it.
Even if we had 3,000 posts a day, I would still only pick and choose the threads that I wanted. I've learned A LOT about a lot of things since i've joined this list. I would hate to have it disappear, or be have every member stop contributing.
Not everyone has to contribute, but you may have something to say that someone else needs to hear, or would love to hear.
Just my two cents... carry on.
