    Kiltmart

Has any member purchased either a dress sporan with metal cantle and / or belt and buckle from Kiltmart of Arizona? If so what is your opinion of product quality and the company's service record? I may PM responders with additional questions. Kind regards, Gene

I have purchased both. The real Horse Hair Sporran is worth the $100.00 I gave for it. Different Cantel than pictured , actually the one they show for the synthetic. I would bet it is a China Import. (I've got nothing against Chinnese horses) The belt is good. Again, well worth what I gave for it. In fact, it is my favorite belt. I have bought cheesier products for a lot more money elsewhere.

If you want HIGH quality product, this isn't their thing. Note their name ( It has that Wal-mart, K-mart, ring to it) There service was fast and they were quite curtious when I talked to them.

I'm sure individual items change up as they get a container in, sell in out, and a new container come. So the Horse Hair Cantel picture may be correct now.

I would not hesitate in buying from them again, but I have no illusions of what I am buying.

Their stuff is OK. I would blow the money on a good L&M sporran personally.

The cantles are cheap. Also, some of their stuff on ebay are seconds (scratch and dent).

Occasionally, you can find a good deal, but you need to be really careful about what you buy from them.

I asked a question about inexpensive eBay sporrans and found the answer is that you really need to know what you are buying there. There are some good sporrans that come up for sale, but a lot of them are seconds. Anyway, a good sporran will get bid up rapidly.

In short, you are better off going to somebody like Rocky or Matt Newsome and buying a custom L&M from them.

As for belts and buckles, all of those on eBay are crap. Well, unless you can find an antique one. Definitely better off buying any belt from a kiltmaker.

I think our Phoenix area kilties have replied that they do not have a storefront or retail outlet. Just a warehouse operation. As Rocky said, there have been many threads...search and you shall find.

You can have any two of price, quality, or service.

Well, I'm not Phoenix area (I go between Tucson and Flagstaff, depending on time of year) but I have tried to deal with KiltMart in person. My experience is that they don't know the meaning of the words "customer service," and can't be arsed to actually deal with customers. I'd rather give my money to one of our fine merchants who support the site, with advertisements or with participation, or best of all, with both.

Always someone can make something cheaper than someone else. I have found that generally you get what you pay for. I much prefer to see the item in the "flesh" before I buy it. Not always possible, of course, but my advice is to look at something other than the price, at least part of the time. Quality is never cheap, but on the other hand, it last much longer.
