    Red face Pockets

    Hi there,
I've made my hubby a kilt, will have to post pics...I've got a question regarding pockets. I've done the inside pocket. But, I've seen someplace on this site someone had made side pockets. It was posted with excellent pics and step by step instructions. I'd really like to find it again.

    Kathie,
Sportkilts has some pics of pockets that they can put their kilts. Check out their website- that may give an idea. I have one of their kilts and the pockets are great.

Here are a few pics during construction of the style pockets I've made now for two kilts (just finishing the second, will post pics later today). I put a secondary pocket in for organizing, keeps all that stuff from banging around the bottom of a big cargo pocket. Mine are 7 wide x 8 high finished size, with a 4-inch flap. These show velcro closure, the latest ones have a shaped flap with single snap closure. This camo fabric was light enough weight that I doubled it for the pockets -- next one was denim so it's just single weight. I cut the fabric double width with allowance for seam and 1-inch allowance for gusset. With the doubled camo fabric, I was able to enclose the raw edge of flap inside the pocket back wall. With the denim, I just did a bunch of "finish stitching" along the raw edge, then sewed it to the back wall prior to sewing the pocket side seam. Pockets are stitched to kilt along the lower edge of flap (so the flap folds forward over that line of stitching). That attachment line is about 2 inches above the fell, and pockets sit slightly forward of center hip with gusset facing rearward. Hope this helps!
