Wearing your sporran on your belt?
I've been looking at some historic sporrans, notably the Ferguson Britt sporrans on the Scottish Tartans Museum site, and was wondering --- Any of you/ how many of you ever wear your sporran on your belt like some of the Britt sporrans, instead of on a sporran chain/belt?

Britt-Ferguson Sporrans...
Salutations Neighbour,
I've never worn my sporran on the belt, but then again I only have one sporran and it's not fitted to do so. Especially as I have a 3" Britt-Ferguson belt (caint afford his sporrans by a long shot)! Nice it is, too. My own impression is that wearing the sporran on the belt was a hold over from medieval times in the Highlands, and would have been quite common during the hey days of the clan system and the Breacan Mor... Note: I am unable to sight any sources for this impression, just my amateur opinion etc.
I'll wager our friend Mr Newsome could shed some expert opinion on the matter, eh wot?
Cheers,
Wesley

I made a sporran from black motorcycle saddlebag leather, with loops large enough to hang on my belt. Figured it would be for casual wear. Came in handy once when the chain was still home. Sporran isnt really anything to look at, but it is useful.

I've worn my sporran on my belt, but I got some comments about it looking weird.

I think it looks strange. I saw a guy at the Highland Games this weekend. It looked like he was either too cheap to buy a sporran strap or didn't know what he was doing (I think it was the latter).

I use a sporran belt (instead of a chain) or a sling which attaches directly to the kilt belt.

Due to my shape I wear my sporrans from hangers off my belt. I have made one with a longer single belt loop to wear with my great kilt when I attend a ren fest.
I've survived DAMN near everything

My tobacco brown Rob Roy sporran I bought with a sporran hanger rather than a sporran belt. I have the belt too for the black Rob Roy. I have no real preference for one over the other.
