So many sporrans, so many choices

You'd think that someone who has a sporran collection like this wouldn't be stumped with what to wear for a function.

Sure, all leather=day wear, leather and fur front=casual evening wear, Fur and cantle=evening/formal wear. When you are with friends, pretty much wear what you feel comfortable wearing. But I was going to a scotch tasting. I was going to wear a tweed braemar for this.

I am on the right, so you don't see that I chose to wear the sporran in this picture:

I thought about my thorfinn or wyvern leather works sporran, which I would have worn for something at a friend's. But I thought this was a bit more "formal", but not barathea Argyll formal.

Well, I wouldn't have been busted by the kilt police since the only other person wearing a kilt was wearing a sheriffmuir with a tie. Sooooo...

Anyway, I was told wear the best sporran for whatever occassion you are going. That means it was a real toss up between the one I wore and the thorfinn or wyvern leather works sporrans. Sorry guys.

    Opinions???

I honestly can't understand the delema. I guess you have a real problem there. That is one problem that I wouldn't mind having.

I found the trick is to reach into the closet and grab the one that catches your eye... better yet, let a woman choose.

oh my. I'm in love with several of those. If only I had the money to gift my husband to be with one of those formals for our wedding. *sigh*

The white fur, second row from the top. What would one want to search for to find something like that? (I'm also loving the grey one on the far right, third row from the bottom). Not sure which one's those are as far as "names" but if you'd let this woman choose, that probably would have been my choice.

No copy, it's a real L&M I bought from Matt Newsome.

Just hunt around and you will find them. EBay is a great source for cheapies. Some people find them at yard sales.

I can see why you have a dilemma. I never do. I have three sporrans. I have a hard leather one with tassels. This is the basic, starter sporran, relatively cheap, but functional and there is never a worry to mess it up. I have a Buzz Kidder Inverness one that is my favorite. And I ahve a white rabbit hair one for nice evening events where I could possibly get dressed up a bit. That's it. My decision making is very, very easy!

You know, this might be a case where a sporran like the leather face, chromed cantle sporran from Celtic Croft would fit in well. It's not good enough for black tie formal, but would go well with a dark gray jacket level of dressyness.

I, of course, have know idea what your sporrans look like.

How many of those are real and how many did you get 'off the streets'? ;-) OH MY! Is that a L&M copy?

Duke, you look to me like a kilt wearer with a sporran problem.

not a bad problem to have, IMHO, but after seeing your collection I won't hold my breath for your next order.
