    Clingmans Dome to Andrews bald

These were taken late summer in the Smokies around Clingmans Dome. The Appalachian Trail passes right over the peak of Clingmans Dome and there are 100's of miles of trail within the Great Smokey Mountain National Forest.

    View just below the summit

View from Andrews bald. Somewhere out in the mist was Lake Fontana about 12 miles away.

I'll just add a few from North GA while I'm here

This is Currahee Mountain of Band of Brothers Fame. Hopefully these will give a bit of appreciation of what 3 miles up and 3 miles down means

    First view of the mountain

You can see the rock outcropping where we are headed

The trail up and up and up

The View South. Currahee is the last mountain in the Appalachian Range as you can see.

Super scenery, well worth the climb for that final view.

Great pics! Maybe in the future I need to try and walk as much of the AT as I can. At the Big Meadow visitors center there's a pair of hiking boots donated by a woman who walked the entire trail. They look pretty rough, and the caption says her feet hurt whenever she looks at them. Sounds like a challenge to me.

Awesome shots. I love that area. I haven't visited in the Smokies for a very long time but hope to take a backpacking trip down there sometime next year.
