I dunno, perhaps more of a mettalic look might make it look like chain mail, I don't know. (It reminded me of chain mail in one of the pics)

It's a little too "Ren Faire" for me, to be honest.

I have looked at the photos a couple of times now trying to figure out why this outfit doesn't work for me.
The knitted vest is an update on the "Chieftain" style doublet that is most often worn with a ghillie shirt. It is a theatrical look but can be worn with flair
(Hamish has a black leather one).
This outfit doesn't work for me because it is pairing a more modern knitted version of the doublet with the theatrical (supposed historical looking) ghillie shirt.
If the shirt was a bit more modern then the entire ensemble would be a modern take on the classic Highlander outfit.
Then it might work for me.
No disrespect to your model or vest, he looks fine. But to my eyes there is just too much of a mix up in looks going on here.
Cheers

I have to weigh in with Jamie on this-- I think a "traditional chieftain" vest would look a whole lot better than the "grandpa" cardigan look you've got going here. Sorry, but it just doesn't "click".

I am tending to agree with Jamie. IMHO The knitted doublet fights with the rivets on the shirt. I think it would look better paired with a long sleeve collared polo shirt or a long sleeve button shirt. Also not "clicking" in my eye is the loose fit of the ghillie shirt sleeves being bunched up under the arm by the knitted doublet. It looks really weird from this point of view. A more modern sleeve would look a lot better.

Don't know that I would wear it with a ghillie shirt but I LIKE the vest. Depending on price I imagine that I would buy one.

I think the biggest problem with this is the looseness of the knit. A tighter knit would give a less transparent look to the vest and would work much better. Not a look for everyone, but it could work.

Boy - I'm afraid the news doesn't get much better from me either. You do get extra points fro thinking outside of the sporran - but I'm afraid the texture of the knit is fighting with the other textures of the wool kilt and ghillie shirt.
Taking a spin on Jamie's suggestion of more modern shirt - you could pair it up with a slightly different style knit vest...

But then we are admittedly way outside the whole "classic highlander" formula.
Good Luck!

Sir,
I find that I agree with the other folks who have given their feedback. I like the vest, but a tighter knit would /could work, if a different type of shirt was worn with it. As it stands now, with the loose knit, it just doesn't trip my trigger.
Cheers,
Brian
