    What a sucker I am!

I just got sucked into 3 hours of a movie I have seen over and over over the last 44 years. Dr. Zhivago. What a Classic!

I loved it when I was 10 and still do. Lara's theme still sends chills down my spine. David Lean was a true cinematic genius. The scenery still dazzles. No one does epic sweep like that anymore. And Julie Christie? Say no more! I fell in love with her in the 60's and she looks just as good now as she did back then.

Best thing about it was that it was on PBS so there were no commercials.

Sounds like a pretty good way to get "sucked into" something. Hmmm, doing something you enjoy? Good music? Beautiful women?

Was your valentine in some way a part of this terrible experience?

I re-watch that movie about once a year.
IMHO one of the very best collection of actors ever.
Although it was a crush on Geraldine Chaplin for me.

Indeed it is one of the classics. There was a remake a while back which really wasn't that bad at all, had Sam Niell and Keira Knightley in it, and it covered parts of the book that Lean's version didn't so I found it to be a nice complimentary piece.

I'd never heard of the other version here is the IMDB page on it, though I think I'll stick to the original.

It's worth seeing, although it's not as good as the original. The BBC remake focuses more on the Russian Civil War, as Rob mentioned, as well as the more "political" theme that got the book banned in the USSR in the first place.

If I remember correctly, the new version does a lot more with Pasha/Strelnikov.

Now...how many here have either attempted to read the novel, or actually finished it?
