Isle Of Skye Comparison Thread
This thread is for informational purposes to show first time buyers the differences in material from mill to mill...
There have been questions posted about the different colors for the different 'materials' for the Isle of Skye tartan. I just received a 'Bright Skye' kilt (what Frugal Corner calls their 'Isle Of Skye' tartan) and I personally OWN an Isle of Skye kilt, and we have PV Isle of Skye material. I took a picture with ALL 3 in the same shot.
The kilt in the TOP of this picture is Lochcarron's Isle of Skye in WOOL
The piece of material ON AN ANGLE (to make sure you could see it was different) is a piece of Isle of Skye tartan in PV material from Marton Mills
The kilt in the BOTTOM of this picture is a 'Bright Skye' tartan kilt from Frugal Corner

The Bright Skye is well... bright! It's definitely different than the other two.

Wow, Bright Skye is truly shocking. (And bright.) Thanks for the comparison.

Rocky - is the sett size the same for the wool and (MM) PV IOS? The color looks perfect on my monitor!

The Sett is a bit smaller as compared to the wool but the Bright Skye is , just ghastly when I did the original run of IOS in PV from MM I wanted to make sure I got the proper permission and paid the royalties as Rocky did, there was no way I was having it turn out like the Bright Skye. I am not a fan of Bright Skye enough said

I've owned the Isle of Skye in 16 oz wool from Lochcarron for some time now. I can say without doubt that when I'm wearing it I get compliments on the subtlety of the tartan, I'm sure that I would not with the bright skye. On top of that I have the satisfaction of knowing that the designer of the tartan was properly paid for the length of tartan that my kilt was made of.
