Question Help with my name and Gaelic

    Hi all,
I am named DaNeil, and to my knowledge I have yet to see anyone with this name. I think I know what is but not sure. I was thinking it's an anglisized form of the Gaelic equivilent of my name. Da Neil is how it's pronounced and since day one, my grandfather had always sang Danny Boy to me. He was born and raised in Cork.
Noone is really telling me about my name.. Here in the States it's felt like being named Sue.. I was teased alot growing up..then having the middle name of Francis did not help either, LOL.
I have long out grown the embarassment of my name, I embrace the uniqueness of it. Besides, I am 6'2" and 250 lb former Marine, who will seriously tease me now, unless in good spirits? Lol
I would appreciate any comments or information you good people might provide.

DaNiel is your first name-I presume?

Did you ask your parents what it means?

The first male in every generation of my family has been named Daniel since the name was anglicized. Slohairt got it right with the Gaelic equivalent, as far as I know. It reads as if your name is another post-Gaelic version of the name that became 'Daniel' for so many of us.

It's a cool form of the name, BTW, once you escape the trappings of primary/secondary school. Being a giant marine doesn't hurt, though!

Thanks for the help..... Mom just says it's my name, and my dad passed a few years back and I was never around him for most of my life.
By the way it's pronounced Dah Neal
