Custom Tartan for Kilt
Hi Nick,
I'm interested in having a five yard kilt made in custom tartan. How do we do this? All the custom options I see are someone elses "custom tartan." What would the price be (including our X Marks discount)?
Thanks, ColMac

Hi Colmac,
I'm not entirely clear about what you're asking, but I'll do my best. When you say "custom tartan", I'm not certain if you mean one of our woven-to-order range of recorded designs, or a new "design-your-own" weaves using our new Tartan Designer feature. The answers are similar in both cases, but with differences in detail. I'm guessing you mean the latter, as prices for the former are shown on the site.
The main point for me to emphasise for both is that when weaving a short length to order there is a practical minimum length, and this is slightly longer for the 'design your own' ranges. So the price of a 5 yard casual kilt will be lower than the total order price. We have to weave the extra fabric anyway, which we can give you as a piece of material, or make into additional products. This is explained in the Purchase tab of the Tartan Designer.
The pricing showing on the Design-your-own ranges were also a bit messed up today when I looked. (This is still a beta facility, with a few issues we're still working on.) I've asked the techs to fix this bug, which should be done soon. So I'd prefer not to quote exact prices until this has been fixed, which should be very soon. If you could clarify exactly what you have in mind, I'd be happy to help further. In fact, I'm keen to help understand and resolve anything that's not totally clear and intuitive, as we take this new facility towards a full public launch.
Best wishes
Nick

Nick,
Thanks for the info. Yes, it was the "design your own" I was referring to. Will give it a try tonight and see if it is workable.
Cheers, ColMac

Okay, then as I said, the pricing is a bit messed up on the site I believe. It shows different 'from' prices at different stages, and I wouldn't swear the final price is right either. The pricing is roughly in line with our existing custom weave ranges (just a tad higher, but not much) but with a larger minimum weave too. We'll be getting it all fixed up asap.
Best
Nick

Hi,
I've designed a tartan that I'm considering getting woven, and would be very interested in trying the tartan designer. But it asks for an invitation code. May I please be invited to try the application?
I'm also curious as to what rules and regulations apply if I want to register my design officially.

Hi, I'd be happy to send you a code. But I need an email address to send it to... can you advise?
Also, you need first to register on our site (www.scotweb.co.uk) using the SAME email address, before the code will work.
I should mention the tartan designer has a few bugs at the moment. We have a fully redesigned program in development which fixes these, and also has a whole new layout and with many major improvements, which we are aiming to launch with a full public release later this month. So apologies if parts of the current site do not work fully meanwhile.

I've PM-ed you my e-mail. Btw, do you have a shop in Edinburgh, or is it web only?

You should have that invitation now. As I said, watch this space for a major upgrade in a couple of weeks or so.
We're web only. We very much focus on a global market rather than local. :-)

Thank you very much. I'm in now - but can't get the designer to work. I can select colours onto the shelf, but nothing happens when I click the colours on the shelf. I've tried in Safari and Firefox with the same result.

I'm afraid this is probably because of changes our techs are making in preparation for the launch of the new version. I'm very sorry. The best I can say is that the new program should be ready in a couple of weeks... and will be much better!! Watch this space.
