    Kilted Classroom

After reconstructive knee surgery it was literally impossible to get pants on because of the swelling. So I HAD to wear my kilts to school. It made it easier to use my icy compression cuff and to put my leg up on an impromptu rest at the front of my classroom. My students were great in helping me out by handing out papers, writing on the board for me, and running for more ice for my cuff. So I've been kilted at school for all of April, will be for most of May, and will finish off the year at school in a kilt. Here are two pix of me in or near the classroom. Been on crutches for eight weeks and I'll be off them in two more weeks and a cane after that for a couiple more. Physical therapy starts next week. Oh joy!!

It's great you can wear your kilt to teach! I'm not sure how my school district would have handled that. They still haven't made the obvious connection that obesity is linked to serving pizza, fries, and coca-cola to students... I doubt they could recognize the value of multiculturalism.

Glad that you had the option of wearing your kilt(s) to work. It looks like you are getting around pretty well. My father had a knee replacement last fall. Remember to do everything that the physical therapist tells you to in order to regain as much mobility and strength as you can. Good luck with your continued recovery.

Knee surgery is kind of an extreme way to get out of wearing pants! Glad to see you are able to return to the classroom, I guess the next step will be to get the flyrod in your hands and a fly back in the water. All the best with your recovery.

There is nothing like a kilted classroom! It has been a month since I have worn my kilt to class. Far too long! I hope you heal quickly!

A high price for sure, but enjoy the freedom. Maybe by the time your knee heals up they won't think twice about you being kilted in school.

And SHARP no sporran look! And how could anyone object to an Isle of Skye tartan kilt?? You're hitting them with the big guns.

Think I've mentioned that I get called over to our local high school two days a semester to teach about six classes - actually an accumulation of students from various classrooms - about the effects of alcohol and drugs on the human mind and body.

I always go kilted. Really do think it helps get their attention and keep them focused on me. Never a problem with school staff. Lots of positive comments from the students as I navigate around the campus.

And ice huh? If your doc thinks hot lithium water would help then drag your new knee down to Ridgeway and soak with us in a couple weeks. Info on the Colorado board.
