    Is this in good taste?

I'm taking the opportunity of an upcoming event to purchase my first kilt, It's a formal function, and while I want to stand out; "like a sore thumb" is not the analogy I'm hoping for. Since my fashion sense is limited, ( I usually dress myself from the "Forest Gump" rack at Wal-mart), I'm hoping some helpful soul will give me a bit of advice.

My tartan is a little unusual, it's called Citadel Military Academy and it's primarily light blue and dark blue, with a bit of red and yellow tossed in. So that's handled.

My dilemma is the sporran. Like I said, formal occasion, but I don't like fur. I spotted one that I like, but I'm not certain that:
    a. it's appropriate to a formal occasion
    b. it wouldn't clash with the tartan

If you want to take a look at the sporran, hee's a useful URL:

So, am I completely insane? Would this work? Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks!!

Yes, that will work for a formal occasion. Some folks say black is more formal, but with the Citadel tartan, this sporran will work. I think you've made a good choice.

    First, welcome to the forum.

Second, that's a handsome semi-dress (I think) sporran, and being semi-dress, you can wear it dressed up or dressed down, I'd say. There is a line of thinking here that goes for formal events (depending on the level of formality) wear what you have in the best possible way. So, if all your other kit is up to snuff on the formality scale, your shoes are polished and your hair is combed neatly, I think that reddish sporran would look smashing against the tartan you've chosen.

    Regards,
    Rex.

I'd say it would be a nice sporran for many different events, and I think it should work very well with the tartan. L&M make a very high quality sporran.

What about this one from L&M the blue leather will tie in nicely with your kilt? Be advised L&M sporrans are not cheap and do not deal directly to the public. Check out Scottish Tartans Museum for sporrans, Matt is an L&M dealer.

    Nice tartan.

    Welcome!

Your choice of sporran is fine for the Kily Tartan you are using. Well done.
They go well together. That is a very nice tartan!
I do like that sporran personally, goes on my list. Thank you for pointing it out.

    Hi KD,

Welcome to XMarks from across the Atlantic in Norfolk, England. The thing to remember is that at your event, you will be the expert on kilting. While you are there, if you say it matches - then it matches, no one else will know the difference!

    Regards

    Chas

    Thank you!

I appreciate the kind words and the good advice!

I'm obviously getting into the spirit, so to speak.

I'm not wealthy, but I believe in spending money for quality. I've ordered the kilt from scotsweb. Since it's a custom order tartan I'm told to expect delivery in late July. Obviously pics will have to wait.

Thank you again and I'd appreciate any hints or suggestions!

As others of the rabble have observed, it looks like that sporran will work well with the tartan. Good for you!
