Where can I buy a kilt in Mexico?

Hello fellas, am really a newbie with the kilts, indeed I made two of them at home, but as you may suspect are not perfect, and am to shy to go out with this home-made kilt, so am looking for a kiltmaker or something like that, but here in Mexico city.

I already saw at scotweb, guilty kilts, usa kilts, kiltscanada and mackilts, but all those with their excelent attention has almost the same problem, the time of delivery and the price, may be all of you could think they have affortable prices, yes that's true, but when your currency exchange makes a huge difference, this makes more difficult to buy a wool 8 yards kilt.

So my nearest alternative is to buy one here in Mexico City, but I only find costumes made of nylon and poliester...

Is somebody know a place in Mexico City where I can buy one?
Or do I have to save a lot of Mexican money (pesos) and wait alot of time to get a real one?

    Thank you so much
    Baruch Ortiz

from coastal North Carolina. Can't help with a kilt maker in Mexico City. But if you have made a couple of kilts, the instructions in the DIY section for the X-Kilt or buying a copy of Barb Tewkesbury's book, The Art of Kilt Making (Celtic Dragon Press) might be the best way to go.

    Otherwise, save those pesos!!

    Welcome!

I also think making one is your best option. Do use a recommended book and you're on the best way to success.

Not sure how much exchange rates are screwing you up for ordering from Scotland, but there is a good quality kiltmaker who is making custom kilts and selling on ebay under the vendor name bobolishious, for right around $200US plus maybe a bit since the exchange rates with the pound are going up lately. Check out his auctions and if there is something there you like within your price range bid on it. If not use the "contact seller" route to communicate directly with him and ask him if he can quote you a price for a kilt in whatever tartan you desire. His prices have been the most competitive lately for a traditional well made Scottish 8 yard mid to heavyweight tartan kilt. Several members here, including myself, have one or more of his kilts, and they are great, a real deal for the price. Alternatively try Tartanweb.com for an 8yd kilt from the Jura range, which right now are selling at around $245US plus s/h of about $#0 to the US. Not sure about Mexican shipping or potential customs costs.

Nearest kiltmaker I know of to Mexico City is Kathy Lare in Albuquerque, NM, USA, who handsews all her kilts (excuse me, works of art). Her goods and prices are available for review at her website kathyskilts.com, but are a bit pricier than some of the other places already discussed, although the quality is impeccable, and she has many fans here at xmarks.

By the way, welcome to XMTS from the Kentucky Highlands.

Those of us who make kilts rarely make them for people who live nearby. So, we're all really good at working with someone at a distance. And all of us have made kilts for people outside the US, so you could contact any one of us, and we can help you out.

Have you looked at Stillwater Kilts they seem to be able to ship out even before you order. It is a quality product for the price point and lists only what is on hand. They often ship the same day or at least the next day.

You may have to contact them about the exchange rate and customs but this may be an options.
If you see abbreviations, initials or acronyms you do not know the Xmarks FAQ section on abbreviations may help.

Finding a local shop that sells any kilts at all, let alone _good_ ones is probably going to be hard in Mexico City... or anywhere else other than Scotland for that matter. I don't think there are any up here in Dallas So you're probably stuck either trying your hand at another one yourself, or saving up and ordering one online.

Barb has a book out The Art of Kiltmaking, which is supposed to be fantastic. I haven't picked it up yet because I'm not in a position to tackle sewing my own Or get the X-Kilts manual on this site if you want a contemporary style kilt. You've made a couple yourself, so you've already got a bit of experience. They only get easier

Great I thought that I had to wait a lot of time for any reply, but am really happy to read all of you.

meanwhile I make a budget to buy a kilt from the professionals. Do you have any guide/book/page where I can translate for my Tailor to make me a realistic kilt? (I say realistic, because I doubt than here in mexico exist wool tartans)

    Bienvenido!

Your options are to either make a kilt or save your money and order one from either Canada or the United States. Due to free trade, I don't think there would be any customs charges to Mexico from Canada (or the US). As for shipping, my shipping rates are the same for anywhere.
