    Monterey Games

In the Geezer Class, Steve Elliott and Yours Truly had a heck of a day. Steve took the light weight for distance. I took the heavy with a PR of 28 feet and change. YEAH...I was pretty happy about that. I keep racking up PR's this season, clearly I'm getting better.

Steve took both the stones, though we were throwing a 17 pounder. I scored a 29' 2"! ARRRGH, if it had been our usual 15.5 pound stone I bet I would have gotten 30 feet!

I took both the hammers with my best throw of 79' 8" in the light. That's my best throw this season, and knocking on the door of where I SHOULD be throwing the light hammer. I should be seeing low 80's. Anyway, Steve and I went into the last two events tied.

I know I can't touch Steve in WOB, but dang if the Man didn't huck the weight two feet over the bar at 13 feet, twice only to have it come down on the bar on the way down. If he'd done it again, we'd have tied, but of course Steve came through and blew the 42'er over the bar at 13 making it look easy. He went on to tap the bar off the standards 3 x at 15 feet, but then took ONE more go and got his 15, even if it doesn't show in the records. I cleared 12' 6" with lots of room to spare, and AGAIN nicked the bar with the handle of the weight at 13. Arrgh. This is driving me nuts. NUTS.

It came down to the last caber toss. Steve had a 12:30, I had a 10:45 on a 16.5 foot, 75 pounder. His feet slipped on the grass in his last toss to get a turn, but not match his 12:30. If I threw a 12:30 or better, which I've done before with this stick, I'd take the Day. Well, I never quite to the stick settled down and Steve wound up with the first and the beer stein while I got the shot glass and second. It was a great day, lots of fun and for once wasn't blazing hot.

Walker K and Madalyn were there as was the Black Knight. My best friend from high school came out to watch, as did one of the bodybuilders from the gym I work out at. A great day!

When do we get to see you throw again?

Well done, man! What day will you be throwing in Pleasanton? I'll be at both days.

I'll only be there on Sunday. Jamie will be there on Saturday, but he'll be dancing (with the demo team ), so won't necessarily be able to come see you. Please tell me you're throwing on Sunday?!
