    The Frugal Corner

Does anyone have any experience with kilts from The Frugal Corner? I just recieved the Clan Crawford Association newsletter and read that they partnered to produce an acrylic casual kilt in Crawford Modern. I am thinking of getting one soon, but I know nothing about them. (If things here can slow down enought that I can quit dipping into my kilt fund for other stuff)

I've not got a kilt from them, however many have, perhaps a search for Frugal Corner would help.

I own one of each weight. The light weight is a little lightweight (tends to fly about a bit on a windy day), but is excellent for driving. The heavy weight is substantially heavier. On the one hand they are acrylic; on the other hand they are both very well made. The attention to detail on the heavy weight was phenomenal. Both kilts arrived with basting stitches in. Are they value for money? - Oh Yes.

    Regards

Hmmm. Most helpful. I am looking for something inexpensive for hiking/camping and such, but nice enough to wear to a casual or semi-formal occasion. I difinitely need to consider a heavier weight. The winds here can be quite heavy at times!

    Hi Robert,

I got both of mine during their 'free postage' deal last January. I enquired, if that would hold good as I lived in the UK. Mark's answer was an unequivocal, yes. That made it even better value for money. The way I understood it, I could of had a discount because I was ordering two kilts or the free postage.
I am currently unemployed, but if the same deal is available this coming January and I am employed, I will definitely be getting another pair - probably both heavy weight this time.

    Regards

    Chas

I have a 16oz kilt from Frugal Corner. I'm very happy. A wee bit lighter in wight.
I think it would be good for needs, hiking etc.
    I also have 2 16oz. {tanks}.
    And 1 18oz.
    Aye,
    Donald

In my collection I have 3 of the Frugal Corner's heavier kilts. I like them a lot. The fabric is a bit stiffer than SWK's Heavyweights (Which I also like and own 2 of).

The only thing to be aware of is fire risks. I found out how quickly acrylic will catch fire. The answer is.... pretty darn quick.

But, as long as you stay away from fire they are great kilts. Easily dressed up or down.

    FC 16 oz. Crawford Modern

(Pic taken by the 8 year old after we had been throwing a football around in the yard...)

It's a very nice looking tartan. I was under the impression that they only had 16 oz. Crawford, but I could be wrong. I do prefer the 16 to the 13 oz.
    And yes...that's a flat cap!!

That says it all, and then some! I wanted to see what the finished product looks like, and here it is. Now I definitely know this is what I want. I just have to see if they will custom make one for my son too!

The only thing I would point out is that they are acrylic, which is why I own none. I have bought other things, though, like pins, hose, and I'm looking at a sporran from them. Point it, I hate- hate!- acrylic. I find it to be very uncomfortable as it doesn't breathe at all, and can be very hot. It's not like wool, which insulates well when it's cold, but is very breathable when it's hot- acrylic is hot all the time! And it pills and snags like crazy. If those are things you can live with, then go for it- get one. Otherwise, just get their accessories. The service is excellent, and the quality is very good for the price.
