flashes with casual kilt?

I was wondering how many of you wear flashes with a casual kilt. I only have a Utilikilt mocker at the moment and just recently bought a set of garter flashes. Does anyone have any advice on when and when not to wear flashes?

Well, if you have a khaki or other neutral color kilt, then you might want to wear some colored hose with contrasting flashes to give your kilt some life.

I myself wear combat boots with my Utilikilt, however I don't see why you couldn't or shouldn't. I do agree that throwing some color into the outfit is a great idea.

If you wear combat boots or any other 10" tall boot, it's been said, that wearing your hose scrunched down is the way to go... So if they are scrunched.. No flash.. But in any other case where the hose is left up, flash adds a bit of color and style to your kilt..

Thanks much for the input. I've got an olive UK mocker, cream hose and navy blue flashes. I usually wear big logger style boots when out in the kilt, but I'll be at home tonight with some family over for dinner. I'll see what works, keeping in mind that the general consensus seems to be that if I have my hose up high flashes are a good way to add some more color.

Remember flashes are also a good way to keep your hose up.

Absolutely. I wasn't sure if folks ever wore the garters without the flashes.

Flashes give it that little extra something when socks are pulled up. Obviously they should not be worn when socks are scrunched down with boots.

Yes, sometimes I do. I have several UK's that I consider casual wear for errands and maybe also casual events out with close friends. In the summers, I generally wear my hose scrunched down with boots, but in the winter, I'm more inclined to pull them up and keep them there with garters. I may or may not wear flashes depending on how I think the outfit looks. I guess if I had to think about it, more often than not I go without flashes with UK's.

I ended up wearing a pair of regular SmartWool socks with my big boots and scrunching them down. That and the polo shirt worked well for a casual look. I was just here in the house, but it was my first time wearing the kilt in front of family and I got a positive response...and then everyone soon enough forgot that I was wearing a kilt rather than pants. A good night all around.
