Exclamation SWK HW Black Stewart 2 inches to large

I want to drop it from a 36 waist down to a 34 or at least a 35. Any thoughts?

I know this sounds like a handful considering what you've been through getting it--but I'd send it back to Jerry and have him send a 34 to you. A few of us who are in between sizes have done that. He'll get it back to you in a couple of days.

Exchange would probably be the best option.

If it is too late for that, the kilt could probably be altered by moving the strap and buckle on the under apron side of the kilt.

If that is the plan, you should ask Fluter for instructions specific to the Stillwater kilt; I have a difficult time explaining things.

If you can swap for one that fits, do that. Otherwise two inches should be viable. Three is too much :-0 I tried it.

First, try belting it on without feeding the left-hand strap through the buttonhole. Put a belt around to hold it in place. See how the apron lies, how it feels. If you don't like it, you should be able to sell to someone whom it will fit, and get one the next size down.

The buckle on the right is sewn into the fell. That's the only tricky part. Free it with a seam ripper, repair the seam, then sew the buckle back per The Art of Kiltmaking.

On the left side, remove the strap from the under-apron. We're going to replace it 2" away from the edge of the apron, so I like to add a bit of reinforcing fabric underneath---just a scrap of something. Punch some bigger/extra holes in the strap if necessary, then sew per TAoK. The apron edge will "underlap" the buttonhole when you put it on. The right-hand buckle will be 2" farther around the back, but it should work out.
