What X-Marker Owns the Oldest Kilt?
It's time to prove the point that a well-made tank can last forever. I know I won't even come close to many here. The oldest kilt I own and still wear was my first one and it was made in 1992. Matt Newsome's museum kilts don't count!! I'd like to stick with kilts that are still worn, but if you want to qualify by commenting on kilts that you've had since you were a boy (but, can't wear anymore), then I'd like to know about that, too.
So, who owns the oldest kilt?

I have a Cunningham kilt in strome weight which I purchased in 1994, grew too fat for it by about 1998, but in recent times I have slimmed down and have been able to start wearing it again over the past couple of years.
Regional Director for Scotland for Clan Cunningham International, and a Scottish Armiger.

My first kilt from around 1975 is still around and going strong. I know McMurdo has a very old one.

My oldest surviving kilt was tailored for me by Alex Scott Ltd of Aberdeen in 1973 - it is a 13oz Gunn in muted colours and was my only kilt for almost 30 years. It is still perfectly wearable, even on formal occasions, although it has shrunk just a little over the years (!!). My, that kilt could tell a tale or three!
Take care,
Ham.

My oldest kilt is an 18oz Hunting Stewart kilt made for the Canadian Scottish Regiment in 1952 by Thomas Gordon and Sons, Glasgow. I picked it up second hand in Victoria B.C., home of the Can Scots.

My oldest Kilt is an Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders miliatry box pleat from 1938.
I bought it on ebay some time ago and took it to the local military museum in Glasgow for help dating it.
It's still in great nick and gets worn regularly.

I have my Dad's kilt it was sewn up in 1950 in Aberdeen by A&J Scott and co. Though it needs repairs now it was the first kilt when I started all of my kilt wearing in 2006.
Here he is wearing it in 1950

Here's me in 2006 (I've learned the error of my ways and the white hose are now religated to the back of the drawer!)

Grandfather's kilt
My husband's paternal grandfather's kilt is worn by our son, Nathan. Hhe even wore it at his wedding two years ago, and wears it at our Clan events. The kilt was made in Scotland in 1939 for Senator The Honorable Thomas Reid (senator from British Columbia to the Canadian Parliament). We have the picture when Queen Elizabeth opened Parliament in 1955 and there in the front row is a smiling Senator Reid wearing his ancient red Robertson. After his death the kilt was preserved for 40 years by placing it in a freezer until his sister sent it to my husband 10 years ago. It's in fine condition and is worn several times a year.

I have a London Scottish kilt cWW1 that I aquired years ago for £10. Been re-lined and re-stitched and still going strong. Much nicer colouring than more recent weaves.
