pancakes anyone?
i just realized today is pancake Tuesday ,i just wondered if any other xmarkers will be tossing the frying pan today for that little bit of self indulgence or perhaps a family gathering
what kind of pancake do you prefer
i prefer the plain pancake with a wee bit of butter on top ,years ago in the former Yugoslavia in a small town called porec i remember it was custom to put ice cream on a hot pancake something i found a bit odd.... but they might`ve thought it was bad putting butter on one also mind you

When I was growing up my church always had a pancake dinner for Shrove Tuesday.

Interesting. I've never heard it called Pancake Tuesday. Folks around here call it Fat Tuesday.
I'll take potato pancakes, please. With as much butter as they will absorb, and a little sea salt on top.

No pancakes for me tonight; instead, I'll be enjoying the mother-in-law's red beans & rice and king cake at her parish's Mardi Gras party!

Actually, today is Paczki Tuesday in Chicago. Pronounced poonch-key (you thought that Scots was difficult!), it's basically what most folks refer to as a Bismarck or a filled donut. Several organizations have used the opportunity as a fundraiser and sold these artery-cloggers the same way the Girl Scouts sell those cookies.

The Jewel Foods near me cranks them out and I'll be stopping by to pick up some of the custard filled belly-bombs later today. But then, I have a cholesterol level of, like, 160 and I live on stuff like this anyway....genetics are wonderful!

We call it Shrove Tuesday and always have pancakes. They start off savoury and end up sweet. They are the British style thin pancakes. Rolled up with something inside and covered with a sauce. Margaret usually saves some leftovers from the previous days as filling.
Hopefully tonight there will be one each of a curry, chili and a Bolognese filled pancake. Then come vegetable mixtures. And lastly the sweet ones, with mincemeat or jam or ice cream or a mixture of all three.
The trouble is that it is so labour intensive that Margaret has to do the cooking while we do the eating - not ideal for family dining.
So nowadays we cheat. We only make a couple of pancakes from scratch all the others are bought pre-cooked and just require heating through.
I am getting hungry just thinking about it.
Regards
Chas

My Aunt used to make Amaranth flour pancakes. Those would taste good tonight. I will grill a steak instead.
