    Kilted Burial?

The Scot wrote in another thread

"I expect to bequeath it (kilt) when I go to that great pub crawl in the sky. "

Which made me think about my father-in-law, who passed away last year.

He was not a Scot, but he did purchase enough scotch over the course of his years to keep a few distilleries open singlehandedly. He made it very clear, that when he passed away he was to buried without a tie.

Have others made their intentions as far as the kilt known?

Is there a tradition of kilted burial, or not. Seems it would be a more comfortable way to spend eternity than in p@nts.

Just my personal beliefs - yours may be different. For me, burial isolates from the universe other than body fluids drained during embalming. Cremation returns the body to the Universe to be part of the eternal cycle of atoms.

I plan to be cremated in the clothes I was born in. No way would I want to have a kilt reduced back to the elements with me. Rather would like my kilts passed on.

I plan to have my kilts, sporrans, etc. given away to folks who will continue to wear them. That's how heirlooms come into being! Plus, it seems a shame to have a nice kilt rot.

You know... I'm not actually sure who would be handling the details of that, but I doubt very seriously I would be buried in a kilt. Not sure which family members would still be around to make decisions, and I'm planning on staying single, so I might end up on a hook in a freezer at a medical college.

I'm not really concerned about my funeral. After all, I'll be dead and somewhat unaware of what is happening. I will have provisions for the distribution of my possessions, but my funeral is one party that I am resigned to missing!

I'd feel far too selfish if I were to be buried in a kilt. My body is going to science then cremated. Kilts can go to the family.

funny story, I told my friends that I wish I'd be around for my wake, so they threw me a great Irish wake! Best party I've ever had. They made a casket out of beer cartons, and did a satirical slide show of "my life". Then we drank a lot of whiskey, sang a few songs, and told stories about "that b@$#@rd Greg and how much we're gonna miss that SOB!"

I'm with the rest of you. I'll leave the kilts behind and hope there is a grandson or two who will enjoy them.
