Kilt Socks? All over leg design?

I've got a question for you, When wearing your kilt sock or kilt hose would you wear an all over design for every day wear or special occasions? I'm working on an all over celtic design and wondered what your comments would be, much appreciated.....

I guess, for me, it would depend on what your talking about. If your talking about something like this (right):

...then I'd only wear it for special occasions.

For me it would depend upon the overall look of the hose:
    single colour? Multi-coloured?

I'd have to see the hose before I could give a more direct answer.

I'd go with plane colour hose for day wear, I'd Only use a pattern hose for say piping or to add sum bling to my kilt

Is the "all over design" created using using color work or using stitch work?

If it is a single-color hose, with the pattern of the design created in the knitting, I think it would work well for general daily wear. My wife knit hose for me that have a celtic knot running down the length of the front of the leg. They work well with more casual attire.

On the other hand, if the design involved color work, I would be more inclined to reserve them for more special occasions, requiring at least full day dress. Some are of the opinion that full Argyle hose should be reserved for evening wear, for example, but I think they look just fine with day dress, as below.

Of course, this really all depends on exactly what the pattern is and what the final hose look like. My wife has also knit me some "small shepherd's check" hose (from Lady Gainford's book) in a brown and "natural" color check. I admit I will wear these hose much more casually than I will any of my diced hose, partly because the check is much smaller, and partly because the colors lend themselves to more casual wear. So there are many variables to consider.

Depending on the colors and pattern involved, I'd say it could really go either way.

In your hand-knit hose, I'd wear casually as well as more dressed up. I don't think I'd wear with a PC, but who knows...

I'm unfamiliar with the term "all over design". What exactly does that mean?

It will have celtic knot knitted cable running down the front part of the sock in solid colour, natural cream, I'm taking pics later, just wanted to get some ideas....

It sounds like a nice hose. I would be interested in seeing your pictures. Personally, I would prefer a different color option, but that is just me.

    Joan,
For me it would depend on the event. If I were attending a Games, I'd probably wear solid/self-colored hose with no decoration, (unless I were showing off these cabled hose I made last year, which really are red, even thought they look pink. )

If I were 'piping for a party or church or what-have-you, I'd probably wear "decorated" hose.
I'm looking forward to seeing your finished product.

I think self coloured cable hose are great (as in Matt's picture of his brown hose) I wear them in a variety of colours as daywear hose and before I obtained some diced hose, I wore a cream set to formal events
