A Q. for "True Highlanders"
Another Q. if I may, and one that might require a candid answer!
A pal from the Lowlands has just arrived for his annual stay.
his attitude to kilts is that No lowlanders or "b----y foriegners" should wear it at any time (!) I told him it would soon die out, if only Highlanders wore it, to which his reply was, "Nae matter!....Naebody else should be weerin' it!"
Well, it would appear here a Lowlander is speaking for a Highlander,...so, What are the true opinions of the Highlanders on the forum??
Ps, I'm not emotionally sensitive and about to throw myself under a bus .... just curious as to the answer!
Cheers!

Not a Scotsman and certainly not a Highlander, but as an Englishman, it sounds like 'Dog in the Manger' to me. And, of course, that benefited no one in the end.
Regards
Chas

Well it is certainly a point of view that I am familiar with and goes with the "no kilt should be worn further South than the City the Perth(Scotland)" view too. I have not heard either of those views voiced by a Highland Scot for many a year though. In spite of a good dose of reality hitting me squarely between the eyes, I have some sympathy with your friend's comment. These comments do not, however, apply to Scottish Highland Regiments.

Ask him if he thinks no one but American cowboys and prospectors have any business wearing jeans.
All skill and effort is to no avail when an angel pees down your drones.

Total hijack
Jock, do you think we could successfully campaign to ban trakkies north of Hadrian's wall? (I'd settle for north of Lanark!)

Seriously, it's only an opinion and a rather out-dated one at that. I suspect that it may be due to the proliferation of kilts at football matches, a phenomenon which does not always do credit to Scotland. That said, I personally don't wear the kilt outside of Scotland unless I'm attending a specifically Scottish event.

Every time I see one of these 'real scotsman' discussions I recall college philosophy classes and the 'No true Scotsman' fallacy.

That sounds interesting care to expand?
Now back on topic, I can kind of see the whole Its mine and you cant wear it point of view, but as stated above if thats the case then the Kilt will die out sooner than later. If everyone can wear it and pay some attention as to where it came from then the kilt should last forever IMHO.
Just my tuppence however

Your friend doesn't sound as if he would wear a kilt even if he was a highlander himself!
