Spent most of the weekend in the shop and got two blades forged and one knife finished. Wanted to show my new baby off. I spent a little more time on this one than I wanted to, however the results were worth it. Not sure if I should call it a Gralloch or Sgian Achlais but I combined a few elements from a few other period knives to make it stand out.
The blade is forged 1095 tool steel and oil quenched. It is 5 1/4" long and 3/16" wide and is distally tapered. I did traditional filework on the spines and made the ferrule out of steel and brass. The handle horn is red deer and is 4 1/4" inches long with a hand carved pommel out of mild steel to top it off. The other question I have is if I should make it a sock or belt knife sheath. Any input would be helpfull. My hand are wore out from the filing and sanding and the blade only drew my blood once. Thanks for looking.
