Wedding attire help!!??
Okay, I know you're thinking "It's a wedding, wear what the bride says!" - but here's the problem: it's a steampunk theme. I have no clue what to accessorize with as I have never done steampunk. And as a close friend of the groom, the bride insists I wear a kilt with whatever steampunk accessories I have... But I have none!
Surely I will be wearing *A* kilt, just not sure which one - I have a weathered MacKenzie, Irish National, and a couple other that are just a hair too long so won't be worn.
Anyone have any idea what I could wear for this? I'm so lost...

Isn't that Steampunk thing over yet?
I'd just go "dressy"; argyll and waistcoat, tie, etc, but maybe throw in a wingcollar shirt. That look will work OK for the Victorian era.

You could always bust out something like

from our ad partner Altkilts. (if you're going for PUNK steampunk).

Maybe locate a kilt pin and a few other accessories in that style to round it out. As was posted earlier, you won't have to go too far to get the "neo-victorian" look. Find a really cool large brooch and fasten it to a plain black sporran maybe.
It's not exactly steampunk, but I kinda like this one:

The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.

I've followed the whole "SteamPunk" movement with some interest, though I'm not the type to join up. If you're not intending to dive into the Steam Punk subculture, I'd go easy. Goggles are the only thing the people list as necessary.
You should check out The Steampunk Emporium. Some goggles and maybe a pith helmet will be more than enough.
Good luck!

Trying to do steampunk to the nines (without looking "costumey") can be expensive if you don't have anything at all in that genre! I prefer the grungy steampunk over the sophisticated (like Z suggested), but don't know the feel of the wedding.
If you have a modern kilt, I'd suggest wearing that instead of tartan (the Alt Kilt artificer posted would be great, but any utility style would rock it). Otherwise... one of your "too long" kilts would be a good match for a punkier look.
Clunky boots are your friends. Hrm... pocket watch, goggles... maybe go buy a cheap analogue clock and take it apart for the gears. Hit up a local antique / junk shop and look for anything old and metal
There's a steampunk band called Abney Park... one of the performers wears a tartan kilt. You could do a search on him and model after that.
Good luck!

Have you been into the shoppes out at TRF, Zardoz? Almost any place selling leather anything is also selling steampunk stuff. Bandoliers, hats, sporran-type-thingies. All over the place.
There is one shoppe on the far um... east? side of the faire, across from the Royal Mint... they sell clocks. But they have their shoppe fully decked out in some really sweet steampunk gear... that they won't sell because they were told they weren't allowed to. Wonder why everyone else gets to? (or maybe it's just that they asked permission and no one else bothered to )
Steampunk falls into the category of "I was doing that before it was cool, dangit!" and now I can't do it because it's so trendy. Sigh.

I love Abney Park! Have you heard of Dr. Steel and Vernian Process?
Back O/T.
A nice waistcoat, pocket watch, high collared ivory shirt and boots (or diced hose, spats and shoes) would rock.
Gentleman's Emporium (a page related to Steampunk Emporium) has some very nice options for waistcoats and shirts.

Find a brass recycler, cover yourself in duct tape with the sticky side out, and have a couple buddies huck you in to one of the bins. Wear whatever comes out with you.
Alternatively, pick up a can of gold-colored Krylon, and shoot your boots. Hang clock innards in place of a kilt pin, and tape a brass plate to the back of your head.
Ok, yes, the theme is getting so mainstream that I'm getting a little cynical ...
So, seriously, you can get a pair of brass-colored goggles from most costume shops for about 10$. You can also just take a pair of swim goggles, mask out the lenses, and hit them with a rattlecan. Bonus points if you use ski-type goggles, like the ones everybody wore around the rebel base on Hoth.
Carry a brass-colored tube with you, and peer through it once in a while. Bonus points if it's really a kaleidoscope (thank goodness for spellcheck!) or a telescope.
Wear a monocle.
Not entirely kidding about the recycler or the brass plate on the back of your head. It really does appear to be that easy.
The kilt is largely incidental.
That's all I got. Keep in mind I'm mostly joking around...make it tasteful, it's a wedding.
