xman's Highland Kilt #5: Complete
There are a few milestone moments while making a kilt. Certainly finishing the pleats is a big turn as is pressing them in, but the point when the canvas has been sewn in and the apron edges are basted down really feels like I'm 'half way there'. It's when the length of cloth first looks like a kilt from one end to the next.
Here's my new eight yard MacDonald of the Isles Modern pleated to the double black lines. I wanted to pleat to the stripe, but the white stripe and even the red seemed too bold for what I wanted with this one. I wanted a dark profile and I sure got it.
Preparations for the impending holiday season kept getting in my way of being productive on this one, but I got it done just in time. It sounds like we're about to get some snow and colder temperatures for the weekend. I just ordered the cloth for three more, but I don't expect to see it until the end of the year so I guess I'm on kilt-making vacation for the holidays now.

Well done sir.
A lovely kilt in a good looking tartan. If I may ask? Which mill is the fabric from?

Looks great!
I'm still in the first stages of construction of a kilt in that very same tartan, although I went for pleating to the white stripe as I don't have anything that is quite that "bold" in the stable as yet.

Wow! That's a really nice kilt. You are very productive, do you have a goal on how many kilts you are going to make, or is it just an addiction?

Hm, good question. Let's see, five done, three more committed to, and there are an additional eight more churning around in my brain. I do expect to achieve most of them next year, many by summer. By then I could dream up a few more too. Cash flow will get in my way before desire subsides, I can be pretty sure of that. Is that goal oriented or obsessed? If they're not all for me does that matter?
