wool/acryllic hose
Does anyone know a supplier who can make clan specific wool/acryllic hose to order? There is no cost issue - am prepared to pay top dollar for quality work, I just dread the thought of wrecking woollen hose because I lack domestic skill or inclination to learn. The major internet suppliers all seem to offer limited options, none of which are a really good match. ( Kerr hunting Ancient )

I don't believe that adding acrylic to wool hose, if you're talking about such a blend, will make them any more durable than pure wool would be, in fact I rather think it would be the opposite. Synthetics break down and/or fade in sunlight or the wash compared to wool, and wool is a lot more resistant to many chemicals as well. Also, I remember from the Falklands War that synthetics were found to melt against the skin and cling just like napalm... well, let's just say I don't like them. If your concern is that wool can't be put in the washer and dryer with your jeans, just don't do that. Simply rinsing a wool garment in cold water takes out most of the dirt and all of the smell it might have picked up, and if you add a specialized cleaner like Woolite or Zero, a few squeezes and an air drying cleans them up as well as anything. Just don't put wool in the dryer. That's my personal two cents and I don't even own any sheep!

We just started carrying diced and Argyll hose (pure wool). Cost for a hand knit pair of Argyll 4 color hose: $130 for calves 16" and under / $140 for over 16". Turnaround time is about 6 to 8 weeks. If you're interested, drop me an email... rocky@usakilts.com
And ditto everything Canuck of NI said.

We can have wool/acrylic blend Argyle (tartan) hose made, but the cost will be much higher than the 100% wool ones we offer.
our 100% wool ones are made in the USA and are $140 for argyle hose. The wool/acrylic blend ones are made in Scotland and are $250.
You can PM me or call me at the museum for more details.
