How Do YOU Celebrate Tartan Day?

I've never been to a Tartan Day event but am planning on attending the SOKS event at the Caledonian (in Toronto) on April 8th.

What is everyone else doing for Tartan Day?

What do people wear i.e. is it a more dressy occasion (like Burns Day) or more casual and raucous (like Saint Pat's)?

For me - it's wear whatever I have... But as a general rule, I think not as dressy as Burns night but definitely more than St. Pat's. Of course, this year will be my first time to wear the kilt to work so I'm going with definitely more dressy than say Highland Games wear...

Since I'm the only kiltie in my area it's a one-man party. Last year it was a pretty quiet celebration since nobody around here knew about it, but I think I'll do about the same thing again this year: Wear a kilt all day(which I do about half the time anyhow), have a steak and a pint at supper followed by Johnny Walker and a good cigar while watching the sunset with my wife and son.

Actually, the number of kilted gents has doubled for this year's "non-event" since my 15 month old son will be wearing one too--if I finish making it in time. My wife agreed to wear some tartan on the 6th, but hasn't said what it will be.
The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.

Actually, I’ve been celebrating Tartan Day since St. Patrick’s Day when I put on my 2011 Tartan Day button! I’ve worn it each day since. If not kilted, I’ve worn a tartan waistcoat. It’s been a conversation starter. I’ve taken Tartan Day off from my employers, and will be with the local Scottish Society at Hugh Mercer’s Apothecary downtown Fredericksburg telling folks about all things Scottish. A number of XMarkers are joining me and pix will follow!

The three years I worked at the United States Senate I wore my kilt to work with the only kilt jacket I own (black barathea with silver buttons). It worked out well since my kilt is the Carolina tartan and my buttons are NC state seal buttons and I worked for one of the two senators from North Carolina. Of course it was hard to feel overdressed when standing in close proximity to Sean Connery wearing a Prince Charlie, but since joining this forum I have been given to feel like my usual outfit would be woefully inappropriate. Still considering it, though.

It depends on what I'm doing at work that day. While there would be absolutely nothing said anytime I showed up in kilts, there are days when a kilt would not be appropriate to the occasion. So far, I've worn a kilt about half the time since I became aware of Tartan Day. Otherwise, kilted or nae I definitely wear the family tartan somehow, generally on a scarf, and a Balmoral hat. When kilted I get do get a lot of postive feedback on April 6.
