Sarong or So Wrong?
Wife got me a sarong to wear at the beach. I wore it today after the pool and I have to say, tres comfortable...
But it does look a bit less masculine than the kilt. Do I care? Nah... gonna sit on my porch, sarong and Hawaiian shirt, and enjoy a nice cigar.
In this weather, forgoing the kilt might be a better option.
Anyone else live in a tropical climate and decide to wear the Indonesian "kilt"?

Good on you, wear what you feel comfortable in.
The topic of sarongs for men comes up frequently for discussion on a certain other forum but lets not go there as this forum is kilt specific.
I'd have to agree the sarong looks less masculine than the kilt but perhaps a warning shot is appropriate here, Rule #9 states that this forum is not the place for the discussion of cross-dressing, so please lets not see this topic degenerate into a discussion as to the masculinity or otherwise of sarong wearing.

That sounds great to me. It is traditional male wear and appropriate for the location. I would do it without reservation. I believe my wife would like it.

Own a few and wear them at beach or pool - don't see the kilt and the sarong as interchangeable garments....much different.
Have worn Utilikilts to the beach and poolside - nice to have pockets to put "stuff" in, something sarongs and pareos lack.

Yes.
1. I own many unbifurcated garments aside from kilts: sarongs (mine are Sri Lankan rather than Indonesian, and I used to own some Burmese ones too), but also a Kenyan kikoi, and an Indian dhoti.
2. I absolutely DO NOT think they look in ANY way less masculine than a kilt -- that is in the eye of the beholder and I've spent enough time living in Asia to have my mind opened to all sorts of things I'd never see in the West.
3. A warning shot HAS been fired across the bow (re. rule 9) so I'm not going to say anything further other than: if anyone wants to continue the discussion via PM or e-mail, or wants to see pics or anything like that, I'm happy to oblige.
Now to quote Forrest Gump: That's all I have to say about that.

Lightly I shall tread.
Thanks for the comments, and apologies to the staff for any "boundary stepping" - I understand there are plenty of forums that cover this topic...

I think a sarong would be great to have in a tropical area especially on the beach. I'm a big guy and don't want to look like Iz on the cover of facing future so for me I think it's a so wrong. At least until I loose some extra weight.

As a former kilt wearer, I think I'll just stick to shorts or trousers.

Personally, I don't think the sarong looks any less manly than a kilt. It's a mans garment, just like a kilt. I say go for it. I would, but I don't know how to wrap one.
