2 buttons with chain on front of jacket

What do the rabble think of this. Reason for asking is that I got a spare button with washer and spring ring so could fit into button hole on jacket and I have some spare sporran chain. Does it look better than just 1 button or is it OTT.

I am in two minds. It looks a bit up-market for day wear. Would it look better with a bow-tie and does it look as if the wearer is too fat for the jacket? I don't know what it is, but I just don't think it works.

Forgot to add that this would be for a black argyll evening wear jacket but the above was the only picture I could find.

I think I like the look, but the silver buttons would look better with a black jacket in my opinion. (rather horn with the grey).

I like it a lot, especially on a black argyl as you mentioned.

I actually wear something similar with a leather vest when I ride my Harley.

I have this arrangement on a mess jacket and it works very well indeed BUT the chain needs to be shorter and the jacket more generous for your girth, so it naturally falls virtually "closed". This look just doesn't seem to work with jackets that are cut to naturally fall "open". Just an auld crabbit opinion....Robbie

I don't know...

I think this type of jacket does look better when it doesn't close completely. (as long as the shirt and/or waistcoat does!) ;)

For me a jacket looks better when it's just a slight pull to close. (not a great stretch, just enough to bring the waist of the jacket in). Hard to explain what I mean... when it is closed, there shouldn't be space floating around your sides.

I've seen that setup on a couple of dress jackets from Kintail. I think it looks smart as long as the jacket is cut so that it would naturally hang almost closed, even without the button chain.
