Kilted on the Waverley

The Waverley Paddle Steamer, the only surviving paddle steamer in the world has now finished it summer sailing on the Firth of Clyde, with the exception of 2 days in October, when its full season finishes. Its now on its way to Portsmouth for a few weeks after the final sail yesterday.
Yesterday's sail was supposed to be from Glasgow sailing around the Ailsa Craig of the Ayrshire coast but due to bad weather, this was cancelled and the Waverley sailed an alternative route around Bute, Cumbrae and Loch Striven.
I had been on the Waverley the last 2 Saturdays at the games in Rothesay and in Cowal, on both these occassions there were quite a number of kilts to be seen on board.
So on its last sail yesterday, I used it as an excuse to be kilted again, for the third day in a row and I think when you start wearing the kilt so often as I have done over the last few summer months you tend to feel that you want to wear it all the time.
Normally I don't take photos but on Saturday I bought a new camera so if someone can give me an idiot's guide to getting these photos on this site, I will attempt to do so.

Rest assured Jimmy if I can post pictures here, then be assured you will be able to. The first thing you need to do is create a "Photobucket" account and its free. There may be other accounts but Photobucket is where I think most of us are.

There are good instructions lurking on this website, and even I understood some of them! I found that many kind fellows here assisted me through too.

To those giving advice please, PLEASE avoid techno-jargon-------words of one syllable are quite sufficient for some of us!

Jimmy,

I can echo Jock - Photobucket is about the best.

I would give two little bits of advice -

Once you have uploaded to Photobucket, create a folder and put them in it (Waverley 2011, for example).

Once they are there and you have linked them to XMTS - do not move them - ever. If you do, the link is broken and to all intents and purposes cannot be rebuilt and we will never see them again.

Another option:

1: Go to your User CP
2: Click on Pictures and Albums
3: Create Album
4: Click on Upload and upload pic from your hard drive
5: Click on pic and copy/paste BB code onto your message. (use a second browsing window if posting multiple pics)

Maybe photobucket is easier; this is just the way that I worked out.

If you copy the IMG line from the ones under the photo the image will appear in the post once it is submitted.

I have fond memories of the paddle steamer which did excursions from Portsmouth, in the Solent, way back when I sailed out of Langstone Harbour - and I think that must have been the Waverley.

She has got herself into bother several times, possibly as the wheels are fixed to the same shaft and steering is rudder only, so no fancy 'wheels in opposite directions and spin around on the spot' manouvers.

The Waverley should now be in Portsmouth for the next few weeks.
You have probably been on it as it was built in 1947 after the original Waverley was bombed and sunk by the Luftwaffe at the evacuation of Dunkirk. It still is in mint condition and a pleasure to sail on it.
At present it has the begging bowl out as over the last three years the summmers in Scotland have been atrocious and sales decreased. This summer despite the weather, salws have been good for the Waverley, the Glasgow Evening Times has done numerous features on it in recent months and the Scottish Parliament has been urged by several MSPs to make sure it still sails next year.
By the way on Monday when I was on it, the One Show was filming on board, this is shown tonight (Wednesday) on BBC1 at 7pm, if you see a kilted guy at the pierside at Fairlie then thats me.
